A Blue Love Affair With Something Blue Anklets
For much of history, the color blue has been a symbol of love, loyalty, and trust. There is a lovely rhyme that has been popular through the ages: "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a silver sixpence in your shoe." Believe it or not, this charming rhyme dates back to Queen Victoria's time.
Queen Victoria was born in 1819. She ruled from 1837 to 1901. Her marriage to Albert was celebrated in 1840. It was a timeless romance. One for the ages.
The queen thought the world of her husband. Perhaps to honor this well-known, idyllic love story, the items mentioned in the rhyme are believed to bring the bride good luck and happiness as she begins a new chapter of her life. Each phrase of the rhyme has some very specific messages encoded within it.
The term, "something old," is to remind the bride that she must hold her family and friends close to her heart. The phrase, "something new," is thought to invite hope and good luck for the future of the bride. Finally, the phrase, "something borrowed," invites the bride to seek support from family and friends when needed. We all know that marriages, especially good ones, are not always full of rainbows and butterflies. Hopefully the sparks still fly most of the time though, and the honeymoon phase lasts as long as possible.
"Something blue," is actually a symbol of true love. It symbolizes loyalty, spirituality, and knowledge in Feng Shui, which I found quite appropriate to represent all of the qualities of marriage. Lastly, the final part of the rhyme is about a silver sixpence, which symbolizes financial prosperity and stability for the couple. Perhaps it's a bit superstitious, but, who knows? What if it works?
To honor these ideas, a lot of brides will wear a blue ribbon. Why not honor your originality and opt for something you can wear a bit more often: A blue anklet. SWCreations has a wide variety of beautiful handmade sapphire anklets for your special day.
